|Temperature Coefficient of Resistance (TCR):
TCR is defined as the change in resistance for a unit change in temperature over a specific operating temperature range. Resistance wire alloys are available that offer a TCR range from 1 ppm/°C.
Temperature-sensitive resistors with temperature coefficient characteristics approaching +0.6%°C are being increasingly used by manufacturers as temperature compensating devices for application as cold junction compensators for thermocouples, diode ballasts, temperature indicators and other current-limiting devices. TC linearity can be adjusted by use of series-parallel resistor windings with wire of selected temperature coefficient. Our special facilities are available to customers for resistors of special linear and non-linear temperature-resistance characteristics.
Resistance stability is defined as a measure of the repeatability of the ohmic value of a resistor when measured at a referenced temperature when subjected to a variety of opeerating and environmental conditions such as load temperature, chock, vibration and humidity. Every Micro-Ohm resistor is stabilized by artificial aging, regardless of its temperature coefficient. This relivies inherent strains induced by winding, bending, and differential expansion between the bobbin and wire.
|High Frequency or "High Speed" Resistors:
By controlling winding techniques and the geometry of the form on which the resistor is wound, igh frequency resistors can be made approaching and often equaling carbon and metal film resistors.
This high frequency operational capability, plus other inherent characteristics such as high resistance accuracy, low temperature coefficients, long term stability, zero voltage coefficients and low noise characteristics, make a wirewound resistor desireable for many applications that were not feasible heretofore.
A resistor can be designed to provide a rise time of 50 nano seconds or less (from 1-% to 90% of peak pulse amplitude) with a 100KC pulse input. Inquiries on special performance characteristics are invited. Faster rise times can be obtained in the resistance range of 5K to 500K.
Power de-rating factors are based on the allowable TCR error, operating temperature, and maximum allowable resistqance tolerance. Since these parameters are application dependent, power de-rating curves or charts should be considered general rather than absolute. Consult the factory when the stability and TCR specifications for your application are sufficiently critical to warrant exact derating recommendations.
